CANCER TREATMENT: HEALING SOUNDS
Music has been shown throughout time to have a number of therapeutic capabilities. Healing mantras, chants, incantations and the knowledge of rhythms, sounds and words of power have survived centuries of materialism and remain a beneficial tool for healing, both now and for future generations. The Egyptians refer to incantations as cures for infertility and rheumatic pain. In 324 ÂÑ, the music of the lyre restored Alexander the Great to sanity. The Old Testament records that David played his harp and lifted King Saul’s depression. The healing properties of music are time-tried and tested. Following are the healing benefits of good music and sounds, depending on the type of music being played.
Music can:
• bring about a state of relaxation or excitability – depending on tempo;
• increase or decrease body metabolism – depending on tempo;
• increase or decrease muscular energy increasing muscular endurance;
• reduce or delay physical fatigue and stress;
• produce marked and variable effects on blood volume, pulse and blood pressure;
• lower high blood pressure;
• lower the threshold of sensory stimuli and either reduce or induce visualization;
• lessen irritability and anxiety;
• improve self-confidence;
• enhance creativity, concentration, meditation and learning;
• regulate respiration and digestive processes;
• alter mood and promote self-healing.
Music has the ability to affect us in a variety of ways both physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Our primary attraction to music is most likely through its power to create moods and to elicit emotional responses within us. Music affects us all very differently and provokes different emotions, feelings and thoughts.
Music has a strong effect on levels of consciousness and spirituality. To explore this, is beyond the scope of this book. However, following is a table of levels of consciousness and how music may affect each level.
